چکیده

Acute mesenteric ischemia is a circulation-insufficiency event, occurring either suddenly or rapidly over a few weeks, that deprives one or several abdominal organs of adequate respiration to meet metabolic demands. Although mesenteric ischemia occurs infrequently, the mortality rate is from 60 to 100%, depending on the source of obstruction. The risk of atherosclerotic-related mesenteric occlusive disease increases with aging and those who have severe cardiovascular disease are at the highest risk. From 20 to 30% of hospital admissions for acute mesenteric ischemia are from nonocclusive mesenteric ischemia. Nearly 5 to 15% of all acute mesenteric ischemic cases are from a venous thrombosis.

The value of lab findings in early diagnosis of acute mesenteric ischemia

Objective: Acute mesenteric ischemia (IMA) is a vascular emergency with broad variability of clinical presentations and non-specific laboratory findings. Therefore, there is a significant need for reliable serological markers of ischemia. Various laboratory studies may be performed for suspected AMI, but in general, such studies will not establish the diagnosis.Me...

Superior mesenteric arterial branch occlusion causing partial jejunal ischemia: a case report

INTRODUCTION Ischemic bowel disease comprises both mesenteric ischemia and colonic ischemia. Mesenteric ischemia can be divided into acute and chronic ischemia. These are two separate entities, each with their specific clinical presentation and diagnostic and therapeutic modalities. However, diagnosis may be difficult due to the vague symptomatology and subtle signs. CASE PRESENTATION We repo...

Acute occlusive mesenteric ischemia in high altitude of southwestern region of Saudi Arabia.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Mesenteric ischemia which can be acute or chronic depending on the rapidity of compromised blood flow produces bowel ischemia, infarction, bacterial transmigration, endotoxemia, multisystem organ failure and death. High altitude can precipitate thrombosis because of hypobaric hypoxia and its effect on coagulation system. The objectives of this study are to determine th...

The overall mortality associated with mesenteric ischemia is between 60% and 93% but rises precipitously once bowel wall infarction has occurred. Mortality remains greatest for acute mesenteric ischemia resulting from obstruction or embolic phenomena. Patients with an early manifestation of NOMI have mortality ra...

A Statewide Analysis of the Incidence and Outcomes of Acute Mesenteric Ischemia in Maryland from 2009 to 2013

INTRODUCTION Acute mesenteric ischemia is a surgical emergency that entails complex, multi-modal management, but its epidemiology and outcomes remain poorly defined. The aim of this study was to perform a population analysis of the contemporary incidence and outcomes of mesenteric ischemia. METHODS This was a retrospective analysis of acute mesenteric ischemia in the state of Maryland during ...
